Interlink Networks Introduces New Wireless LAN Security Software; Secure.XS Uses Strong 802.1x Authentication to Secure Wireless Networks

Interlink Networks, a leading developer of network security and access control software, today introduced its newest software for securing 802.11 wireless LAN (WLAN) networks. Secure.XS (pronounced Secure-Access) secures WLANs by verifying user identities and blocking intruder access using standards-based, strong 802.1x authentication.

Interlink Networks, a leading developer of network security and access control software, today introduced its newest software for securing 802.11 wireless LAN (WLAN) networks. Secure.XS (pronounced Secure-Access) secures WLANs by verifying user identities and blocking intruder access using standards-based, strong 802.1x authentication.

Secure.XS provides a full line of defense by enforcing user authentication before granting network access and creating unique encryption keys for each user session, securely encrypting traffic between clients and wireless access points. Wireless traffic becomes as secure as wired connections when using Secure.XS.

The software was designed specifically for those seeking an easy-to-use solution for securing their WLAN networks from unauthorized users and intruders. Secure.XS offers a rich set of interfaces, software developers kit (SDK), and extensions for customers who want the option of customizing more advanced authentication, policy, or accounting logging functions.

We know that enterprises, network appliance OEMs, and VARs want WLAN security solutions that are standards-based, ensuring compatibility with heterogeneous networks," said Mike Klein, CEO of Interlink Networks. We kept this in mind when developing support for a broad set of wireless standards, so that each customer can select the authentication approach that is best for his or her application."

Secure.XS supports a variety of 802.1x Extensible Authentication Protocol (EAP) methods, including Ciscos LEAP, EAP-MD5, TLS, and TTLS, and soon-to-be-shipped PEAP. These methods offer authentication types such as user name and password, certificate-based, and mutual authentication between clients and wireless access points. Also, Secure.XS connects to existing user databases, eliminating the need to transfer large amounts of data during deployment.

Target users include:

·   Network appliance OEMs seeking an easy-to-embed, highly customizable WLAN solution.
·   Enterprises that need to increase security in existing WLAN environments, or that are considering rolling out a new WLAN.
·   System integrators or value added resellers (VARs) in need of a WLAN authentication solution that is compatible with many vendors network components.
·   Universities implementing WLAN-enabled campuses to reduce new infrastructure costs.

Interlink Networks Secure.XS architecture is derived from their RAD-E Enterprise Access Server, a COMNET New Product Achievement Award 2002 Finalist, and winner of the Communications News Editors Choice Award 2002.

Secure.XS pricing begins at $2,500 for 250 users. The software runs on Red Hat LINUX, Windows 2000 and Windows NT operating platforms.
