Atomic Cartoons Carnival to roll soon

Atomic Cartoons latest high-energy cartoon, Coney Island Carneys, created by animation artists, Garnet Syberg-Olsen and Jared Deal, to hit airwaves in 2003.

Coney Island Carneys centers on the lives of cartoon carnival characters, who are just a little eccentric to say the least. The series serves as a comedic social commentary, illustrating that being 'different is okay, and sometimes even better than being 'normal. The shows message is wrapped up in a blanket of verbal gags and nonsensical slapstick, much like a hotdog on a stick covered in corn batter," States Atomic Cartoons VP of Co-production, Trevor Bentley.

He adds, There is a void in the market these days for off-beat-comedy cartoons and the Carneys fills that void. Garnet and Jared have created a series that reaches back to the Golden age of cartoons when things were funny and didnt have to follow rules made by committee. Theyve brought the classic way of making cartoons into todays edgier environment. We received tremendous positive response from a variety of companies and Networks at Mipcom last week and we are looking forward to starting production on this future classi. Bottom line, this will be a cartoon for cartoon fans."

The main Carney characters are Art and Harriet, the parents; Pierce, youngest and wildest of the boys; Poe, a typical teenage girl who is embarrassed by her familys 'weird behavior; Buzz, oldest of the kids and a real 'Mommas boy; Pappy, the wacked out Grandpa who thinks hes a penguin; and Dogboy, a family pet and not really related...maybe.

The Carneys are a close-knit family unit, but not your regular family by any means. The family faces situations and challenges like any 'normal family, but their way of dealing with things is a little...tweaked. Like the time Dogboy got his head stuck in the toilet and Pierce went into the sewer to push Dogboy out from below. Of course, he ended up wrestling a gator in the process and Art (the Dad) unknowingly flushed Dogboy down the pipes anyways. But it all worked out in the end.

Our thing was to create a show about acceptance and tolerance of diversity. This theme is especially relevant for the times. Creatively, we tried to capture the flavor of old Coney Island, circa 1920s and 30s, as well as the style of cartoons from that era," Elaborates Garnet Syberg-Olsen, Carneys co-creator The carnival atmosphere is a perfect arena for an animated extravaganza. Jared and I would go to the carnival to check out the freak show, it was almost a religious experience for us. The sights, the sounds, the smells...it was a psychedelic attack on all the senses!"
