Breakthrough Test For Toxic Black Mold
Park Ridge, Illinois....October 22nd, 2002.....Toxic Black Mold (Stachybotrys chartarum, Aspergillus fumigatus and Penicillium aurantiogriseum) has been associated with serious health problems and even deaths. In severe cases, homes could not be remediated and were turned over to the local fire department for training purposes. Knowing if toxic black mold is in your property is of great importance.
Now, toxic black mold can be detected with the simple collection of a dust sample. The sample will yield a quantitative result indicating the level of the Stachybotrys chartarum, Aspergillus fumigatus and Penicillium aurantiogriseum mold in the property. The test, developed by the United States E.P.A. is now available from Lighthouse Laboratories of Park Ridge Illinois.
Home owners (or apartment/condo owners), especially those where family members may already be suffering from an unexplained ailment, may wish to get their homes tested. Also, anyone with a compromised immune system should get their home tested as toxic black mold has been shown to be of particular danger to those with compromised immune systems. Also, anyone considering the purchase of a home or condo should consider the benefits of a toxic black mold test. Realty professionals, home inspectors, and appraisers should also consider testing on behalf of their clients.
In the past, toxic black mold was detected by having to see the mold, scraping a sample, and sending it to a laboratory for analysis. If the mold died in transit, the potential for a false negative reading is likely. With the dust sample and DNA analysis, you do not have to see the mold...and since mold grows in dark damp places, too often you cannot see where the mold is hiding. If it is in the air, it is in the household dust and it will be detected, even if unseen. And the DNA approach does not require live samples, so false negatives are eliminated.
Test kits are now available by contacting the company. The kit with pre-paid laboratory services retails for $199.95, plus shipping.
