magic4 joins the Open Mobile Alliance

magic4, the mobile messaging solutions specialist, has joined the Open Mobile Alliance (OMA), bringing its technological expertise in IM, EMS, MMS and SyncML to the group.

London, UK October 29, 2002 - magic4, the mobile messaging solutions specialist, has joined the Open Mobile Alliance (OMA), bringing its technological expertise in IM, EMS, MMS and SyncML to the group. magic4, which provides a leading edge integrated technology platform for mobile messaging, will now be actively involved in promoting open next generation messaging standards.

The OMA is a consolidation of the Open Mobile Architecture initiative, WAP Forum, Location Interoperability Forum (LIF), MMS Interoperability Group (MMS-IOP), SyncML Initiative Ltd. and Wireless Village. Its purpose is to deliver responsive and high-quality open standards and specifications based upon market and customer requirements, an objective shared by magic4.

Simon Wilkinson, CEO, magic4 commented: "magic4 is delighted to be part of OMA. Our two organisations share the common philosophy that success can only be achieved by sweeping aside the barriers to information sharing by promoting industry standards. A range of technologies will be harmonised under the OMA umbrella and magic4 looks forward to working with its members to achieve rapid advances in interoperability."

"Driving open standards and interoperable mobile services is currently the critical issue in the telecoms industry. The wide variety of handsets and mobile browsers on the market need to be compatible to provide end-users with the services they expect. magic4's established position in EMS and the lead it has taken in developing MMS and Instant Messaging, has established it as a key player in the resolution of issues surrounding interoperability and we look forward to playing an active role in OMA".
