JBlend Platform Picks Up Steam in US; Aplix Provides Java Environment For Sprint PCS Vision-Enabled Phone From Hitachi

San Francisco, CA -- October 29, 2002 -- Aplix Corporation, the global leader in deploying Java(TM) technology in mobile phones, announced today that its JBlend(TM) Java platform has begun shipping in a second PCS Vision(SM)-enabled phone by Sprint, this one manufactured by Hitachi, Ltd. JBlend technology has enjoyed unparalleled success in the Japanese market and, with its shipment in the new P300 PCS Phone from Hitachi, continues to build momentum in the US.

JBlend technology is the most deployed Java execution environment for mobile phones throughout the world, having been incorporated into 32 wireless handset models from 11 different manufacturers to date. At the end of July this year, JBlend technology has shipped in more than 10 million units of mobile phones and home electronics devices, including mini disc camcorders, digital photo printers, digital image albums, and High Definition Televisions (HDTV).

Hitachi has implemented JBlend technology for the new P300 PCS Phone, which incorporates the Java 2 Platform Micro Editions (J2ME(TM)) Connected Limited Device Configuration (CLDC), Mobile Information Device Profile (MIDP), Sprint PCS extensions and Aplixs patent pending KFTT(TM) acceleration technology. This comprehensive platform enables Sprint customers to enjoy an enhanced experience through the graphical, personalized, and interactive wireless data services distributed in the US by Sprint. Users will have the ability to run enhanced games, maps, and productivity applications that can be downloaded to the phone wirelessly over-the-air.
