Stress on the job? Chew your way to a healthier life!

Chewing does not heal, but it can help! Too much stress due to work or home life can result in clear body signals that it needs relief. The best way to avoid stress is to pay attention to the warning signs. However, sometimes these signals go unnoticed. Tooth grinding is a clear signal of stress, but occurs in our sleep and is noticed by every one in ten sufferers. Often only a dentist can confirm if such symptoms are present at all.
One of the best methods to get rid of stress is exercising, like jogging, playing tennis or even boxing! Another good method is to relax consciously, like breathing deeply and clearing your head of everything, can do wonders to get a new perspective of the problem at hand, meditation or even a nice, hot bath with scented candles.
Sometimes, even window-shopping; as most women would know; can be a surprisingly good way to forget stress related problems; although it can attack the money purse, as most men may know!

And why should we concern ourselves with stress at all? Prolonged stress can be extremely hazardous to health and can even cause death. Actually, stress is harmful if it persists, since it starts deteriorating the body. While facing a stressful situation, our body mobilizes and directs energy by secreting excessive adrenalin, upsurges all the bodily functions, which in turn raises blood pressure, heart rate and sugar level in the blood. Hence, the blood brings extra energy to the brain and muscles, making us more alert and stronger to prepare to cope with any sort of impending disaster. In Germany, according to recent research findings conducted by the German Health Insurance DAK, showed that every second man and woman suffers from stress.
What makes this research interesting, however, is that the individuals suffering from stress have found their own stress-reliever, which is chewing! Combining a social activity with exercise (consumption of food can be regarded as exercise!) and relaxation, which is a usual psychological factor when having a meal, has shown to work wonders to combat stress.

Naturally it does not have to be a three course meal. Chewing gum is also a helpful way to fight stress. For the dental point of view, it is good advice to chew only Toothfriendly gum with the Happy Tooth logo, which indicates which confectionery do not harm the teeth -- you dont have to pay the price of getting rid of stress by having caries instead! Since who can chew, when your teeth cannot get a bite in?

„You have to get your teeth in Chew your stress away!

For a lot of people, it would be helpful if they knew what an important role the mouth plays in stress relief. One suggestion is to consume a tasty Toothfriendly candy or a dental chewing gum during times of tension - even for the patient in the dental waiting room!
To avoid harm to the teeth with confectionery containing sugars, dentists should recommend Toothfriendly confectionery, which have been scientifically tested to be safe for the teeth.
So, the next time you go window-shopping, look for something to chew on to fight stress, without attacking your purse, or attacking your teeth!
