ACTORS FIND THE ANSWER IN THE MONOLOGUE BIN: Original monologues by Jim Chevallier

Actors are always looking for just the right monologue: for classes, for auditions, for performance. Since 1997, actors, teachers and others have found the right monologue on the Chez Jim web site -- free! Now the teen and adult monologues from that site are available in print, along with ninety brand new ones -- OVER ONE HUNDRED MONOLOGUES in all!

Heres a sample of what visitors to Chez Jim (www.chezjim.com) have said:

I've been searching for weeks to find a monologue to perform in my theatre class and these are the first ones that I truly liked."
I just needed something simple and in my age group and I got it, thank you soooooo much!"
I was looking for a monologue to use for a talent show and yours are perfect!"
I'm a 13 year old girl who dreams of becoming an actress! I had this great opportunity to go to an acting school, but I needed a monologue. I went to your website and it was so helpful!"
You have helped me so much today. I teach voice and my students are always in need of a monologue for whatever program they do. Now I have such a great resource!"

From an actors challenge to a book:

In 1997, an actress complained on-line that all the monologues for women seemed to be about their relationships with men. Jim Chevallier took this as a challenge. In a few days, he had written monologues about women and their work, women and their families, women and their strength... He then posted them on his Web site. When a childrens manager put out a call for monologues for kids, he wrote a few of those and posted them as well.

A teenage girl then wrote to see she loved what she saw, but... A few days later, she received several monologues for teenage girls, including one of the most popular on the site, Sister Santa".

The snowball was now rolling. Over time, all the gaps in age and gender were filled. More and more people wrote to say theyd loved the monologues and, in many cases, had successfully auditioned with one from the site. A college professor asked to include two in an anthology. An acting teacher included some on his own site. A producer asked to use one in a video. A class in Australia requested the authors biography" -- they were putting on a whole show of monologues from Chez Jim!

It was time to produce a book...

After several months of writing monologues for teens and adults, Jim invited several actors to 'road-test them in small groups. This was by far the most exciting part of the process: not only did these experienced actors bring out unexpected colors in the work, they were as frank about those that didnt work as they were enthusiastic about those that did. Monologues were removed, revised, restored.

The end result is The Monologue Bin, a solid, varied collection of over one hundred monologues, ranging from comedic to dramatic. The collection is organized by age and gender, but these categories are just starting points. Many of the monologues can be used by a wide variety of types.

And so actors looking for new, unique monologues now have an answer: reach into the Monologue Bin!
