Exposures goes International 3 -- 4 December 2002

Exposures, the UK's leading student film festival returns to Cornerhouse, Manchester, UK on 3 & 4 December 2002. Now in it's 9th year, the festival showcases student short films from the North West of England and hosts an array of events including masterclasses, panel debates and practical advice from film and TV professionals. This year the festival goes international with a spotlight on Australian film schools plus the chance of a lifetime opportunity to study film and media in Australia for one lucky winner.


Exposures provides a space for new talent to gain an insight into how the film industry works whilst getting equipped with some of the skills needed to succeed in a hugely competitive arena. For two days the festival is a hub of creativity, discussion and networking. It's the perfect combination of the practical, technical and aspirational, with foremost industry names leading masterclasses and taking part in panel debates.


International showcase
Young filmmakers in England will be given the chance to see new work made by international
students. The event will, this year, include a showcase screening of films from selected
Australian universities and a guest appearance by award-winning short filmmaker Tony
Krawitz. Students will be able to learn firsthand about current Australian cinema, education
and filmmaking opportunities in the country. The event takes place in association with the UK
office of IDP Education Australia.

Scholarship Opportunity to study in Australia
IDP Education Australia is also offering a fully funded scholarship for a one year postgraduate
Masters degree course in Film or Media in Australia. IDP Education Australia is a world leader
in the international education and development services industry. The company offers students
a free information and counselling service on a whole range of study opportunities in Australia. Representatives will be on hand to discuss the scholarship and other opportunities for study.

Events
Director Marc Evans (RESURRECTION MAN) and Producer Jon Finn (BILLY ELLIOT) of the hit horror film MY LITTLE EYE will lead a digital filmmaking masterclass, discussing shooting their latest film digitally and the pitfalls and benefits of digital filmmaking. This years screenwriting masterclass will be led by Frank Cottrell-Boyce, who has penned the scripts for 24 HOUR PARTY PEOPLE, WELCOME TO SARAJEVO and screenplays for HILARY AND JACKIE and THE CLAIM. Frank will be offering an insight into what makes a good film script and can talk both about his film work and his early career writing Coronation Street.

Other events include:
 Animation Masterclass with Cosgrove Hall's Jeff 'Swampy' Marsh and Jon Turner.
 Directors Workshop with Director/Producer Maggie Ford.
 Wired: Internet Distribution and Promotion of Short and Feature Films.
 Documentary Pitching Workshop -- a chance to pitch ideas to a guest panel.
The best idea receives a prize.
 Drawing the Line: Where Do the Boundaries of Experimental Film/Video Lie?


Screenings
As the leading student film festival in the country, exposures also offers an unrivalled opportunity for North West based student filmmakers to showcase their work to a public audience in categories of drama, documentary, animation and experimental. The festival culminates in a Best of the Fest screening and party.
