LAS VEGAS, November 4, 2002 -- UniCache, Inc., a leading provider of alternative payment technologies, has selected terminals from global electronic payment leader Hypercom Corporation (NYSE: HYC) for a new money transfer alternative for Latin America.

UniCache will deploy its innovative Unicard, a stored value, magnetic stripe debit card and Hypercoms fast, secure and easy-to-use ICE card payment terminals to thousands of small business customers in the U.S. and Central America. The multi-application device combined with the proprietary UniCache software becomes a UniCache-enabled payment terminal and, when used in concert with the Unicard, will bring merchants and consumers new exclusive services.

Now people without bank accounts will be able to use Unicards versatile new stored value debit card to quickly pay for good and services, make ATM withdrawals, safely transfer money to friends and family and have access to UniCaches low cost International Long Distance Telephone program.

Exploding Demand for Smart, Fast, Easy-to-Use Technology

There is an enormous and escalating demand for transaction technology and products that meet the demands of people who simply dont have a credit card or checking account," said A. W. Olson, president and chief executive officer, UniCache, Inc. Thats precisely what we are delivering here with Hypercom."

Hypercoms smart, fast and easy-to-use payment terminals deliver the fastest transaction speeds and the highest levels of reliability and security," he said. Combine that with the flexibility of Unicard and we are introducing a revenue-generating service for merchants that puts the power, convenience and flexibility of a debit card into the pockets of people who dont have checking accounts or credit cards."

Our order is simply another chapter in the Hypercom-UniCache relationship," said Olson. Last summer we completed our capacity requirements by adding a Hypercom MegaNAC 8000 in our bunker facility here in Las Vegas. An additional MegaNAC 8000 was shipped to our new office in Guatemala in early September and several other smaller IEN 4000s will be dispersed to facilities located through out Central America."

According to Olson, the ambitious technical acquisition program and establishing state-of-the-art security around the companys proprietary system is in preparation of a winter launch of its Latin America product line. For more than a year, UniCache has been establishing partnerships, strategic alliances and plans to introduce the UniCache system in Central America.

Unicard = One Currency, No Boundaries

After finalizing its partnership and alliance programs with banks, major retailers and cooperatives, UniCache will introduce Unicard, a new stored value debit card using the trademarked slogan: One Currency; No boundaries.

The card has unrestricted use cross borders and can be used for Internet, Point-of-Sale purchases and ATM withdrawals around the world," said Olson.

For customers who are unable to have checking accounts or credit cards or choose not to, the Unicard allows a safe, secure alternative to carrying cash," he said. In conjunction with the Unicard distribution, participating banks, merchants and other outlets, will be invited to use the new UniCache-enabled Hypercom ICE terminals to process money transfers sent from the United States. The added value for more locations to be on the distributing end of the money transfer chain benefits the commercial establishment as well as the recipient who can now have money transfers sent to his or her card and not having to worry about theft or loss of cash. After learning about these new benefits, the United States sender will feel a lot more comfortable about transferring funds with this new alternative."

Heres how it works. A customer decides what dollar amount they want to put on their Unicard and they hand the merchant the equivalent in cash. The customer swipes Unicard through the Hypercom® card payment terminal, the merchant loads the cash equivalent onto the card and the customer then authorizes the transaction using a secured pin # and receives a printed receipt from the terminal. The customer can then use the card for any number of debit transactions at virtually any retail location, conduct ATM withdrawals, transfer money or use it for low cost long distance (International or domestic) phone calls.

This is an exciting and time-saving payment alternative for the millions of hard working people who do not use traditional credit card or checking accounts, and its a value-added revenue generating service for the merchants who offer it to their customers," said O.B. Rawls IV, president, Hypercom North America.
