The Phoenix Suns have gotten the ball rolling on a $50 million renovation to make the America West
Arena the top sports and entertainment venue in the nation. To dynamically promote its print and web based products, community awareness initiatives and contests, the Arizona Republic built a promotional area at the Arena with a video-wall, a plasma screen and Internet kiosks.

   Although new, so far we're very pleased with the capabilities the system provides," Sam Young, Director of Services with the Arizona Republic said. "The system is an integral part of our ability to showcase the Arizona Republic's many media products."

   NORVISION is a leading digital dynamic signage solution provider based out of Tempe in Arizona. The company develops and implements InfoPoint, a cutting-edge remote content management and video-wall control system enabling real-time content updates via the Internet and automatic start-up of equipment and lighting.

   Comments have been very favorable. Arena patrons turn their heads, stop and watch our programming as they pass through the area," said Steve Holmquist, Project Manager for the Arizona Republic.

   From the Republics offices in downtown Phoenix, Mike Bond, Creative Team Leader with the Arizona Republic, updates the information daily.

   We have several basic groups of graphic content based on what type of event is occurring at the arena," said Bond. We have created a sports program, an entertainment program, a kids/family program and a general purpose program."

   The sports program is a mix of photos by the Republic's photographers and animated slide shows showcasing the Phoenix Suns, Phoenix Coyotes, Phoenix Mercury, Arizona Diamondbacks and Arizona Rattlers. The entertainment content consists of entertainment photos, graphics, video clips of upcoming concerts and a slide show of upcoming Rep Row promotions.

   In addition to scheduling and controlling content remotely, Bond integrates into the content loop commands that automatically control the video wall.

   I am sending time-based commands that automatically turn on the screens, lights and plasma screen before an event", said Bond. I am also sending commands to run images on individual screens or on multiple screens, play audio from individual video players and switch to audio from the arena feed."

   Holmquist, said he searched hundreds of Internet pages and researched several dynamic signage companies before he found a company that could provide all of the capabilities he was looking for. But what impressed Holmquist the most was NORVISIONs technical expertise, configuration flexibility
and low cost.

   NORVISION provided the necessary help in getting something seldom done in digital signage systems going at a reasonable cost," Holmquist said. NORVISION worked with us to keep our software costs down and allowed us to try a few different things in our PC specifications which also reduced
costs."

   NORVISION also provided the network management server for the digital signage system on a monthly cost basis. This reduced the need for upfront capital outlay and relieved an already overburdened IT
department.
