Nov. 10, 2002 - Author Janet Elaine Smith has created 'SOS! for Authors. SOS helps a writer put the basics into practice, to start turning rejection slips into the success they have always dreamed of. One writer called SOS an 'on online, one-stop shopping mall for authors.

Some of the courses offered at SOS are Beginning Writing, Writer's Group Workshop, Magazine/Newspaper Writing, How to find a Publisher, Writing your Family History, Turning your Family History into a Fictional Novel, Marketing Your Book, Monthly Marketing Chat and Website Construction.

This project is an extension of the service Smith has been providing authors for the three years since the publication of her first book, "Dunnottar".

Smith is the author of eight published novels and has written three books on genealogy. She is a teacher of genealogy and the Founder of MinnDakota Genealogical Society. She is the Associate editor of Red River Valley Memories and Mysteries, contributing editor for Heritage Quest Magazine and contributing writer for BBW (Big Beautiful Woman). She has provided marketing services for two publishing companies, and has also taught fiction writing workshops.
