Press release
Irvine (November15) -- The Pick-Up Artist,(TPUA) has opened its first same-day delivery
Center in Irvine, Ca at 16585 Von Karmen (inside PostalPlus) according to an announcement
from the companys parent, Great Pacific Rim Holdings, LLC.
The Pick-Up Artist (TPUA), which delivers locally purchased goods by phone, fax, or
on the Internet from participating merchants in from one hour to the same-day, aims to
Fill the gap for businesses that want to compete on delivery without the cost of a delivery
Infrastructure.
TPUA will leverage the existing brick and mortar infrastructure and, through a mix of
Franchised and company-owned stores, will provide fast, low-cost delivery to enable
Impulse" purchases online, without the typical online delivery delay.
The Irvine operation is a co-brand strategic relationship developed with Postal Plus of Irvine.
Launching from a local neighborhood services provider with a retail customer base is the perfect
Marriage for the company, according to Gary L. Chatman, the companys founder. Interest
From local service providers and merchants in many parts of the country is very positive", he added.
The company is also discussing its value proposition with some of the largest Internet
Shopping content providers, as well as with mall owners. The company is listed with
AOL Yellow Pages, Digital City, CompuServe Yellow Pages and other online resources.
TPUA will be one of a handful of minority-owned franchise operations in the United
States. Robert Kushell, a 30-year veteran of the franchising industry and a TPUA board
member, said this represented a tremendous opportunity for African-American and
Hispanic owned businesses to ...move into this vacuum".
The company has researched the industry potential, recognized the mistakes of others
and developed a winning formula", said Rex Washburn, another TPUA board
member and Chairman of the IMAG management consulting group. This is one of the
first startup businesses I have seen that had the foresight to develop second- and third-tier
operational strategies prior to initial funding.
The difference in business models between TPUA and several well-publicized failures is
quite clear. According to Chatman, TPUA carries no inventory, delivers from local
merchant brick and mortar, and is driven by the merchant side of the equation". By
keeping operating costs low, and by franchising most of the operations, TPUA will avoid
the excessive burn rates that have plagued other delivery systems.
The companys market is the deliverable" segment of Internet sales. According to
consultants Booz Allen and Hamilton, this represents 60% of all sales made online. The
average order, they say, is less than $100, and total size of this deliverable segment is
expected to be about $80 billion by 2004.
