Introduction
Sgt. Pepper Live" is to be a professionally performed concert, with the main programme material being the content of the 1967 Beatles album 'Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band.
South Wales is a hotbed of musical talent, and the performers to be used in the project represent some of the top 'undiscovered singers and musicians from the area, together with some very experienced and better-known artists.
The logistics of organising the event, together with the stage management on the evening of the show itself, is a massive undertaking -- one that is to attract a lot of resources to ensure the smooth planning and ultimately the performance itself.
For example. A large number of individual performers will be involved. All have to be briefed & rehearsed, and any special requirements be identified; such as arrangements for choral or orchestral backing musicians.
Show Programme
The show will start with a celebration of the popular music scene prior to the advent of the Beatles, performed by acts taking part in the later, main event.
Following this, the 'Sgt. Pepper part of the show commences. The performance of the material from the album will be continuous, requiring the utilisation of a number of separate stages. Each stage in itself needs to be complete -- with sound equipment and microphones, instruments and amplification, lighting, etc. Obviously, this will involve a great deal of stage management and several rehearsals, meetings, etc.
As one song finishes, the next will commence -- just as on the innovative Beatles recording. Thus the attention of the audience would move from stage to stage with each song, guided by the stage lighting. While one stage is 'live, the next artists will be readying themselves for their cue on another stage, thereby keeping the show moving, varied and interesting to the audience.
Following the Sgt. Pepper performance bands would perform popular music from the years after the Beatles had ceased to work as a group.
Considerable local interest has already been expressed from members of the public and organisations who are to provide sponsorship to cover part of the production costs.
