Feline Friends Headed in the Right Directory
Partnership formed to create Meowhoo.com, an all-inclusive directory of businesses, websites and resources geared to meet all the needs of cat lovers evolves into something extremely special along the way.
Sweet Home, OR, Monday November 11, 2002: Meowhoo.com is far more than just a cat resource website. It is a heart-warming tale of two people with a passion for cats who met online -- people that would never have had a chance to meet were it not for the World Wide Web. Anne Moss and Mary Anne Miller met over two years ago through an affiliated website that Anne hosts, www.TheCatSite.com. Over the years they have corresponded online through emails. Six months ago, Anne approached the subject of a partnership to create Meowhoo.com. Now, on a daily basis they meet in the quiet of Mary Annes morning and the still of Annes evening. Anne sips decaf and eats hummus and pita bread, while Mary Anne sips her high-octane" coffee and nibbles on toast. They work from their respective homes, fending off inquisitive cats from their keyboards, typing furiously, exchanging laughter, tears and ideas.
What makes them so special? They have not had the privilege of meeting face to face. They do not share office space. They have never even spoken to each other on the phone. Anne lives in Israel, and Mary Anne lives in Oregon. But their passion for cats brought them together. They have been able to travel the distance between them electronically (although Annes ability to speak English as well as Hebrew certainly helped bridge the gap).
Anne is affiliated with The Cat Welfare Society of Israel (www.cats.org.il). She is a well-known cat behaviorist in her area, and maintains three cat-related websites. Mary Anne is a well-known cat rescuer in her area and was searching for a good source of information online. Mary Anne stumbled across one of Annes websites, TheCatSite.com. With one of the chat forums devoted to ferals, strays and cat rescue, Mary Anne quickly found a new home." With Mary Annes knowledge of and experience with strays and ferals, she quickly became a valuable resource and was invited to join the site as a moderator to several forums.
During the past two years, Anne and Mary Anne have spent much of their time on the Web helping cat owners, cat lovers and cat rescuers. Searching for cat-related products, services and solutions, they identified a hole in the market" and on the Web. Most of the existing directories on the Web include other pets or are limited in the scope of products or services offered. The goal was to include on one single page viable, useful links that were needed in ANY aspect of cat ownership: litter pans, cat collars, pet psychics, access to Vets and behaviorists, etc. The site contains a link to a virtual tour of a cat hospital where you can see everything that goes on before you take your cat in. The site even deals with the one aspect of cat ownership that so many others overlook: grief management.
The objective? To save cats from being dropped off in the wild or at shelters because the owner was just to overwhelmed or frustrated to try and figure out the answers to their problems.
Meowhoo.com has come a long way to meeting its goal and objective in just six short weeks!
