SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Nov. 12, 2002 - Primary Intelligence, a leading provider of market, sales and competitive intelligence solutions, announced today the publication of a Customer Experience Assessment report on IBM WebSphereTM software.
The report, sponsored by Oracle Corporation, is the result of a 4-month study from May through August, 2002. It analyzes the key attitudes and experiences of IBM WebSphere Application Server users, focusing on understanding the typical experience of purchasing, implementing and administering WebSphere software. More than 70 current corporate users of the software participated in the study.
The report finds that 93 percent of respondents found the integration of WebSphere components to be more complex than they had expected, with half of Enterprise/Advanced Edition customers experiencing overruns indicating that their budgets had been exceeded by at least 40 percent. In more than half of the cases, schedules proposed for the implementation of a WebSphere project were exceeded. Respondents attributed these overruns to WebSphere complexity.
The report concludes that overall satisfaction with WebSphere is limited. Only one-fourth (26 percent) of the users of the IBM WebSphere Application Server platform indicated that they were "satisfied" with the WebSphere components that they selected, however, almost 1 in 4 indicated that they were "dissatisfied."
WebSphere customers had a 2 to 1 preference of Oracle over BEA when asked which product they would choose as an alternative.
