TheraSTrat Releases SafeBase the Theragenomics Knowledge Management and Discovery System.

Allschwil, November 13, 2002 - Switzerland based TheraSTrat AG is pleased to announce the commercial availability of SafeBase 1.0 Professional. SafeBase is a patent-pending, Java based n-tier software suite to be used as an Internet- or Intranet-accessible solution for theragenomics knowledge management. It contains and connects data and knowledge on structural and genetic risk factors for the predisposition of individual patients for the development of severe Adverse Drug Reactions (ADRs).

The person-to-person variability of drug responses is a major problem in
clinical practice and in drug development. Despite substantial
improvements in the safety of drugs (and other chemicals in general),
rare yet serious ADRs still lead to deaths of patients as well as to the
market withdrawal of drugs. On one hand patients with predispositions to
ADRs should prospectively be detected and be excluded from exposure to
drugs potentially harmful to them. On the other hand, valuable drugs
should be kept on the market in order to remain available for those
patients with no predispositions for ADRs.

To better support the complex handling of risk factors, TheraSTrat
developed SafeBase, which comprises a knowledge base together with the
necessary modular portfolio of functionalities for knowledge browsing,
analysis and discovery. SafeBase currently consists of the following
main elements:

SafeBase Theragenomic Knowledge Base, which provides knowledge
abstracted from public domain resources. It contains information on
drugs that have been withdrawn from the market because of severe ADRs,
on clinically most important drugs, on genes and their allelic variants,
on proteins and protein variants, on clinical endpoints, and on chemical
structures of metabolites, intermediates, and covalent adducts.

SafeBase Intelligent Knowledge Browser, which is the main intuitive
point-and-click interface to the discrete entities of knowledge
contained in the Theragenomic Knowledge Base. It graphically displays
the different entities of knowledge as outcomes, compounds, genes,
proteins, processes, relations, concepts, etc., and the direct
relationships to other entities. The entities of knowledge are presented
as a directed information graph that appears in the Intelligent
Knowledge Browser window as web-structured network.

SafeBase Pathfinder, which is an easy to use analysis tool that allows
finding relations in data. You can use Pathfinder to search for nearest
neighbor information, to find paths of molecular risk factors, or to
perform adverse drug reaction-based reverse genotype simulation.

SafeBase Chemical Similarity Search, which is a very powerful approach
in risk assessment in order to find parent drugs, or intermediates and
metabolites thereof, which may have similar biological fates, i.e. share
a tendency for producing similar profiles of ADRs.

SafeBase MolecPaint, a fully featured chemical drawing and viewer
program, which is seamlessly integrated into SafeBase. MolecPaint
allows the user to view, import, modify, or draw from scratch chemical
structures without leaving SafeBase.
