In February 2002, AMD acquired Alchemy Semiconductor, Inc., and formed the Personal Connectivity Solutions Group to meet customer demands for emerging non-PC Internet appliance markets. Under the AMD Alchemy Solutions brand, AMD produces high-performance, low-power, high-integration system-on-a-chip (SOC) processors and wireless local area network (WLAN) solutions. These products are specifically targeted for markets that require low-power, high-performance, high-integration and mobility, and include automobile driver information/entertainment systems, computing devices, residential/SOHO access devices and entertainment devices. Here today to talk about AMD's recent 802.11b chipset announcement is Jim Robillard, Director of Marketing for Communications Products.
Sponsored in part by ISDN Net, Community Harbor is a new venture, designed to help municipalities and county governments across the country build out Community Data Centers and Gigabit Ethernet networks for both business and residential users in those communities. These communities understand that a strategic investment in next generation network infrastructure now, will position them for success in the years ahead. Once Gigabit Ethernet networks are available in the last mile of the network, talk of a "Fiber-Optic glut" will disappear, as a fantastic range of high resolution interactive services with full HDTV class video and theatre quality sound will bring the Web - ON STEROIDS - into everyone's living rooms. Ken Russell is the founder of ISDN Net and operates the three largest Community Data Centers in the state of Tennessee- Nashville Regional Exchange Point, Digital Crossing Knoxville and a new facility in Memphis. He discusses the Community Harbor initiative and its impact on municipalities and corporations.
