Global Caché Begins Shipping New Home Network Adapter
Global Caché introduces the GC-100 Home Network Adapter, the industries first all-in-one modular home automation product that connects a network to IR, serial, and relay devices simply and easily.
San Jose, CA and Las Vegas, NV USA -- November 18, 2002 -- (Lunch@Piero's/COMDEX Fall 2002) Global Caché, a premiere provider of products that enable technology in homes, announced today that it will begin shipping the Global Caché GC-100 Home Network Adapter at the end of this month. The GC-100 provides the means for IP-based software to access, control, and deliver services in a networked home to diverse and previously unconnected devices and appliances, such as audio/video, security, and lighting systems. Utilizing an exclusive modular mix-and-match hardware design the Home Network Adapter can be easily modified for each individual installation by sliding an additional module(s) into the GC-100 enclosure. The GC-100 connects Ethernet networks to IR, serial, and relay devices, and includes analog/digital functions.

The Global Caché GC-100 addresses the growing number of homes with high-bandwidth Internet and networking capability and enables the use of network-based software to control and automate diverse devices throughout the home, eliminating costly and complex proprietary systems. Additionally, the Global Caché GC-100 replaces the current requirement for installers using open systems to piggyback diverse devices from several vendors with one easy to use product.
The GC-100 Home Network Adapter currently includes three models, the GC-100-06, GC-100-12, and GC-100-18. All ship standard with a power supply, network connection, and enclosure capable of holding additional module(s).
The different functions are:
- Serial -- RS232, up to 57.6Kbaud two-way communication with hardware and software handshaking.
- Relay -- 24V at .5 amps contact rating with transient voltage suppression.
- IR Out -- Independent (zoned) output that can drive up to 4 LEDs with up to 200KHz carrier frequency. The output will auto-configure when required to operate with Sony S-Link.
- IR In -- Will support commonly supplied IR input devices for learning.
- Analog/digital input (AI) -- A diode protected 24V input. Voltage levels are measured when polled or an interrupt can be initiated at a pre-configured trip level for sensor input.
