VIKKI L. PRYOR, PRESIDENT & CEO OF SBLI USA MUTUAL LIFE INSURANCE COMPANY, INC. SAYS, "GOOD GUYS FINISH FIRST" IN BUSINESS
Chicago Native and UIC Alumna Urges Business Leaders to Take Risks in the Face of Corporate Crises
NEW YORK, N.Y. - November 11, 2002 - Vikki L. Pryor, president and chief executive officer of SBLI USA Mutual Life Insurance Company, Inc., believes that "Good Guys Finish First." Executives with strong moral values succeed in both the short and the long term, Ms. Pryor says. She recommends that today's executives face their fears, invest in their employees as well as their
customers and live their values, values that have been the antidote to corporate scandals hroughout history.
Ms. Pryor, a veteran of more than two decades in corporate America, will offer her views on ethics in business on Wednesday, November 13, 2002, as part of the University of Illinois at Chicago Business Ethics Lecture Series.
The speech will begin at 4 p.m. in Conference Rooms A, B and C of the Student Services Building, 1200 West Harrison Street on the UIC campus.
The Chicago native and recipient of an UIC MBA, Ms. Pryor believes that today's numerous business scandals - coupled with the past year's domestic and international tragedies -- have created a crisis of confidence in the United States. In this crisis, however, are opportunities.
"Business leaders need to take risks. We need to use technology. We need to recognize the elements of truth from today's failures and run with them. Business leaders must be daring," Ms. Pryor says.
Though new in Illinois, SBLI USA Mutual Life Insurance Company, Inc., has a 60-year history of providing affordable life insurance products to value conscious consumers - "the people who make America work." In the past two years, the company has seen double-digit sales increases, while the overall insurance industry has not. Ms. Pryor credits her company's success - in part -- to her team's embrace of the values of caring, compassion, courage, responsibility and
fairness.
"Respecting these values, following the edicts of conscience: that's all any business leader needs to succeed without compromising his or her core beliefs," Ms. Pryor says. "That's how "good guys finish first."
Last year, Ms. Pryor was selected as a member of the charter class of the UIC College of Business Administration's Alumni Leadership Academy. On November 14, 2002, she will officially accept her award and join this year's honorees, highly successful UIC alumni "who exemplify outstanding leadership, teaching, research and service."
SBLI USA is currently selling Whole Life and 20 Payment Life Insurance policies in Illinois. Within the month, several additional products will be available in Illinois, among them Simple Issue Term life insurance, Individual Accidental
Death and Disability and Supplemental Health insurance.
