November 13, 2002, Harrington Park, NJ... Janson Media today announced the release to international television markets of the new, thirteen-part public television series, BURT WOLF: WHAT WE EAT. The series was produced to mark the 500th anniversary of the fourth and final voyage of Christopher Columbus.

On October 12, 1492, Christopher Columbus came ashore on San Salvador Island in the Bahamas. During the next ten years the people, plants and animals that were exchanged between Europe, Africa, Asia and the Americas totally changed the course of history. They set in motion the largest worldwide movements of populations, altered the political and economic structure of these continents, changed the diet of almost everyone on the planet, and most surprising, continue to have profound effects on our daily lives.

In this new series, author, food and travel expert, and all-around raconteur Burt Wolf travels through the Caribbean, Latin America, Europe, Asia and the United States, and with the help of some of the worldís leading experts, uncovers the stories of how the exchange of people, plants and animals that started between 1492 and 1502 continues to impact on the culture, economics and diets of our lives. Astonishingly, the most significant events brought about by these exchanges were not caused by religion, or politics, or nationality -- they were the result of biology. The plants and animals that passed up and back between the Old World and the New were the real seeds of change.

Burt Wolfís straightforward style and slightly irreverent humor make these programs as enjoyable as they are informative. Funding for the series was provided by ConAgra Foods.
