United Power Deploys TruckMap* Field Solutions

-- Mobile Technology Brings ESRI ArcGIS to the Field -- har*GIS LLC, provider of mobile and wireless technology to utilities and local governments, announced that United Power, Inc. completed deployment of the TruckMap* software suite. Field crews and office personnel have instant, handheld access to United Powers entire customer information system, CAD drawings, and ESRI ArcGIS facilities databases.

United Power, a Touchstone Energy partner, is a rapidly growing electric co-op. Field crews use the new TruckMap* Field Information System for rapid data retrieval and field updates, ensuring that workers have current information regarding the status of facilities and 45,000 customers. All TruckMap* users now have current operating information regardless of their location.

After reviewing several platform providers, we chose har*GIS for their ability to rapidly demonstrate the capabilities we require now, while supporting expansion to wireless communications and GPS navigation, stated Larry Hepp, Director of Operations for United Power.

Remarkably, har*GIS LLC delivered this all-in-one" solution in less than two months by integrating their standard software products with existing data. The new system completely replaced an outdated custom application using CAD browser technology.

The TruckMap* deployment included a variety of existing Microsoft Windows laptops as well as new Windows XP Pen Tablet computers. TruckMap* also provides the same functions on low-cost Windows PocketPC and Handheld PC Professional computers.
