ClinPhone Bucks Industry Trend With Record Results
Nottingham, UK - Friday 15 November 2002 - Award-winning clinical technology company ClinPhone has announced record turnover and operating profit for the first six months of its 2002-2003 financial year.
The company - which has just received two Queens Awards for Enterprise in the United Kingdom for outstanding innovation and export success - announced an increase in sales of 50% between March and September compared to the same period in 2001.
The figures represent yet another unprecedented performance for the group. The results follow record profits between 2001 and 2002, when turnover reached 15.3 million and operating profit went up by 70%.
ClinPhone Group is the largest and most experienced industry specialist in e-clinical trial management, having supported more than 720 clinical trials in over 80 countries and almost 70 languages. It designs, develops and manages telephone and Internet-based IT applications that dramatically reduce costs and improve the efficiency of conducting clinical trials. Its systems are unique within the sector and are now regarded as the industry standard.
Staff levels at all of the company's global offices have also increased due to greater demand. In the first half of the current financial year, the workforce grew to more than 320 in total. Around 80 operational and commercial staff now work in the United States, double the amount at the same point in 2001.
There are now three offices in the United States, with brand new premises in Princeton and satellite operations serving clients in San Francisco and Chicago. Management teams in the United States are also currently evaluating plans to bolster ClinPhone's West Coast office with more operational support. A further technical facility has just been opened in Nottingham near to the company's headquarters, bringing the number of facilities in the UK to four and there are two central European facilities - in Brussels in Belgium and a new office in Heidelberg, Germany.
"This half-year trading result represents exceptional success for the group as a whole and in the context of a troubled world economy is even more impressive," commented joint managing director Dr Neil Rotherham.
"Everyone at ClinPhone is proud to be involved with a truly international organisation growing successfully in both the United States and Europe and providing specialist services to more than 80% of the world's top pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies.
"We have more preferred provider relationships with our clients than ever before, plus new developments which are available to our sponsors which will maintain our technical and competitive advantage.
"Our growth forecast remains exceptional for 2003 and expansion plans and ongoing strategy are being developed in direct response to the success of working in partnership with our clients."

Editor's Notes
· ClinPhone's success story began in 1993, when Dr Neil Rotherham and Dr Jonathan Engler formed the company to offer support services for the management of clinical trials. Study management is a crucial area that traditionally spiralled out of control particularly when hundreds or even thousands of patients were being recruited for trials all over the world. A human operator-based system fulfilled early demand for ClinPhone's services but increasing business encouraged the development of a sophisticated and highly versatile Interactive Voice Response (IVR) system linking a standard telephone to complex computer database applications. The IVR system does all the jobs of a call centre and many more besides, providing a completely automated clinical trial management tool. These services are now available via unique web-based applications.
· ClinPhone Group recently secured a top position for the second year running in the Sunday Times Tech Track 100 survey - which ranks Britain's fastest growing unquoted technology companies based on their sales growth.
· Just a month after it celebrated receiving two coveted Queen's Awards, ClinPhone won the Sage Business Award 2002 in partnership with the Daily Telegraph Best Growth Through Technology prize.
