New organization uniquely targets men over forty with employment challenges
BeyondForty.org provides support for men over forty who face lack of advancement, job and salary stagnation, demotion, layoff, unemployment and underemployment. BeyondForty.org seeks to provide a grass roots web forum for men to exchange ideas and affect positive changes in their employment situations.
If your are male and over 40, chances are you have been "employment challenged."
That means you may have experienced what many males over 40 have traditionally faced for many years: underemployment, longer periods of unemployment, job and salary stagnation, lack of advancement, demotion, even dismissal. According to a report from the Administration on Aging: "age discrimination (at the workplace) is a pervasive and damaging influence...allowed to continue with surprisingly little protest..."
Yet with all these problems, until now, men over 40 have not had much of an outlet, or a support group, to provide self-help. That's because most other organizations target men aged 50 or above -- assuming the problems begin at that age when, in reality, they can affect men as young as 35 (expecially in high tech industries).
Now BeyondForty.org seeks to provide the grass roots vehicles -- in the way of a web forum -- for men over 40 to use to exchange their ideas with others. Exchanging ideas will help remove the loneliness, isolation, fear and shame many males face with challenging employment situations and provide practical, proven, workable, alternatives.
The good news, says BeyondForty.org founder Emil Francis is that you are not alone. "There are literally thousands who have faced employment problems at age 40. Many have -- on their own and somewhat isolated -- uniquely met these serious challenges. Some have developed new ways to overcome these age-related problems. Others have looked deeper inside and affected personal changes which have enabled them to effectively deal with their situations and get on with their lives," says Francis.
The problems faced by men over 40 with employment are real and debilitating. "We didn't go through life-changing experiences in our twenties, and thirties -- to become more valuable, responsible, mature and productive -- to be put out to pasture at 40," added Francis, himself a victim of job challenges in his forties. "But we can do something about it," he adds. "We can put our experiences to work and affect change for the better."
