Nov. 17, 2002 - The South Florida Sun-Sentinel highlights a Bandanna fund-raiser to help the homeless
South Florida's hot new Zu Bar nightclub is the place to be Thursday, Nov. 21. Feel good coming to an after-work party that benefits others.
Mama's Kitchen at Zubar will sponsor a bandanna fund-raiser Thursday to benefit the homeless.
The event will raise money to make white bandannas with black lettering giving the addresses of soup kitchens in Broward County. According to the event's organizer, a homeless woman who goes by the single name Duchess, bandannas are also useful.
"You can use a bandanna to wash with, you can carry things in it, you can wear it on your head," she said.
Cost for the event is $25, which includes two drinks and a buffet. Each bandanna costs $1.90 to make and the number made will depend on how much money is raised.
"We're leaning toward 500-1,000 [bandannas]," Duchess said.
"We're certainly willing to help anyway we can," said Eileen Lawrie, kitchen manager for Mama's Kitchen, a catering/lunch service located at the Zubar nightclub, at 300 SW First Ave., Fort Lauderdale.
