This is a political thriller that begins in Budapest with the kidnapping of President Eleanor McCourter's teenage daughter Gracie from the Budapest opera. Izabella Benczur, a young Hungarian agent for the FBI and a former kidnap victim herself, is the first person to discover Gracie's disappearance. In trying to find Gracie Izabella learns that she may be forced to reveal her own sordid past in order to find the young girl.
The search is also compromised when certain political forces in the United States, unhappy with the first female president, try to use the kidnapping to force the president's resignation.
Gracie's Last Smile is really two interwoven stories that function on two different levels. It is a complex story of political intrigue as well as a moving drama about two young women faced with difficult choices.
The author, Carole W. Holden, has a doctorate in Political Science from Rutgers University and was an associate professor and chair of the Political Science Department at New Jersey City University. She is also the author of the suspense novel Missing Pieces.
