Jamaica Plain, MA - In acknowledgment of Dec 1st WORLD AIDS DAY, LIFE LINES, the only one of its kind statewide HIV/AIDS Prevention Education & Harm Reduction for Homeless Men & Women in Massachusetts, will hold a free haircutting event for the clients of the Shattuck Shelter in Jamaica Plain on Monday, Dec 2nd.
For a third consecutive year, LIFE LINES, a program of The Friends of the Shattuck Shelter, will use the help of local business owners, volunteers and clients to give free haircuts to homeless men and women. Each homeless individual obtaining a haircut will receive a free HIV Prevention Goodie Bag", which contains essential information, materials and gifts on HIV prevention.
The occasion is a way of promoting awareness of HIV/AIDS, amongst a segment of our community, which is at high - risk for HIV and AIDS", said Deborah Milbauer, LIFE LINES Program Manager.
Last year, LIFE LINES volunteers managed to give free hair cuts to over 70 homeless men and women at three different shelters in the state. This year again, in addition to its primary location at the Shattuck Shelter, the Cut Your Hair, Cut Your Risk" event will be featured at the United Homes for Adults Shelter (also known as Pilgrim Church) - in Uphams Corner, Dorchester as well as the Turning Point Shelter in Framingham.
LIFE LINES is looking for more volunteers to donate their time and service in this endeavor of promoting HIV awareness amongst the homeless.
If you are interested in volunteering for the event at any of these three locations, please, contact Deborah Milbauer at 617.524.4709. (Call for times for United Homes and Turning Point)
