Revitalization Of The Norwalk Wall Street Area
Revitalization Of The Norwalk Wall Street Area
NORWALK, CT -- The Norwalk Tree Alliance and Tree Advisory Committee have recently focused their time and expertise to becoming involved in the revitalization of the Wall Street Area.
Mayor Knopp recently approached the Tree Advisory Committee requesting an inventory in the Wall Street area and an investigation of the health of its tree population. As a result of its involvement with ongoing efforts of conducting inventories of all street trees in the City of Norwalk, The Norwalk Tree Alliance was then called upon to take a count of the specified area trees and to note their condition.
On Saturday, November 2nd, several members the NTA including Dick Aime, Jim DelGreco, Alan Kingsbury, Prakash Kumar, Laurel Lindstrom, Don Nelson and David Tracy inventoried several areas around Wall Street. The areas investigated included Wall Street, Mechanic Street, Freese Park, River Street, Burnell Blvd., Main Street and Belden Avenue. Approximately 80 trees were inspected.
Accumulating tree data is part of Norwalk's master plan for managing its urban forest. The Forestry Division of the CT Department of Environmental Protection and the US Department of Agriculture Forest Service are supporting this project.
