NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. -- NOVEMBER 22, 2002 - As law school applications continue to surge beyond last years estimated 100,000-applicant record and competition tightens at Americas top law schools, the brand-new book Law School Insider has emerged as a must-read title for prospective law students and their families. Recommended as very impressive" and a hot new book" by leading web site LawSchool.com, Law School Insider has arrived just in time for the holidays.
Written by Jeremy B. Horwitz, a recent cum laude graduate of Cornell Law School, Law School Insider chronologically tackles every conceivable topic of interest to potential law students and their families, from the admissions process to each year of law school, law reviews and journals, bar exams and job searches.
Comprehensive in scope and packed with practical information, Law School Insider is also easy to read. Presented in a largely narrative format, unlike law school books written by professors or admissions counselors, Law School Insider actually walks through more than three years of a real law students life, discussing great ideas, possible mistakes and issues of concern to students from different ethnic, gender/sexual, economic, and political backgrounds. A collection of useful tables also help to fill out geographical and practical concerns, such as:
• What special laws will you need to learn in order to become a lawyer in certain states? If youre in Texas or Wyoming, youll need to brush up on your oil and gas law, but if youre in Montana or West Virginia, youd better study water law. Every state has unique testing and educational requirements, though there are also many similarities.
• What can you really do with a law degree once you have it? Law School Insider presents 35 unique careers you might pursue, or even other degrees.
Law School Insider sets itself apart from Scott Turows twenty-five year old law school story One-L by candidly discussing controversial modern topics such as:
• Overpriced LSAT and bar exam prep courses;
• The actual value of U.S. News and World Report and other school rankings;
• Cheating scandals and modern legal ethics;
• Romance between classmates;
• Student gossip;
• Unofficial law school parties;
• Closed-door law review elections;
• Surprising events during job interviews;
• Typical perks of law firm summer jobs (ever think about working for a business that pays for all of your meals for an entire summer?);
• Behind-the-scenes dramas with professors
• And much, much more.
Printed in a convenient backpack-ready 5-1/8" by 7-3/4" format with 400 pages, Law School Insider includes original photography, index and glossary, and samples of materials useful for law students. It is copiously footnoted to provide readers with an optional introduction to the style of law journal citations, and has a suggested retail price of $19.95.
