New Year Detox Is No Resolution
Master Herbalist Malcolm Simmonds today issued a stark warning to people considering a 'quick fix' New Year Detox.
"Suddenly introducing radical changes to the diet can do more harm than good - especially after holiday excess", said Mr Simmonds.
"The 'quick fix' approach is fundamentally flawed. It is far more effective to gently and gradually prepare the body for detox, stick to a strict programme for two or three months, and pay special attention to diet."
Natural healthcare practitioners believe spring is the optimum time to start a detox programme, as the body is better able to adjust to changes in diet.
"The human body is designed to store fuel and energy during the winter months in order to deal with lower temperatures and to fight off bugs. A winter detox could actually be harmful - sending the body into shock", said Mr Simmonds.
Agricultural chemicals, airborne pollution, and an over-reliance on antibiotics can lead to a toxic build-up in the body, severely compromising the human immune system. Naturopathic medicine advocates regular cleansing regimes to help maintain normal functioning of the organs of elimination, and to restore the body's natural balance.
