Cancer Survivor Quits Job, Bikes Across America & Forms Publishing Company
TARRYTOWN, NY - November 26, 2002 (HCP) -- Ten Years after recovering from Hodgkin's Disease, avascular necrosis of the femoral heads, and a herniated disk, David M. Klein, Esq.declined a partnership with the law firm he had practiced with for over six years and left to pursue two of his dreams.Klein, an avid cyclist and reader, walked away from his legal career to undertake a solo 4,000+ mile cross-country bike journey and then to write and publish a book about his experiences, appropriately titled "Savoring Life: In Sickness & Health." The bike trip was done over the summer of 2000. After the bike tour, Klein devoted most of his time to writing his book and taking on occasional law work. While writing his book, Klein split his time between Burlington, VT, where he had lived since 1994, and Tarrytown, NY, where he grew up and now resides.
Klein went on to form Hillcrest-Court Press, Ltd. to publish and promote "Savoring Life." Klein has since appeared on the Susan Conklin Show, which airs out of Williamstown, MA. "Savoring Life" is available at Water Street Books in
Williamstown, MA; Papyri Books in North Adams, MA; Good Yarns in Hastings, NY; Bently's Book Shop in Greenville, SC; The Open Book in Greenville, SC; Temple Beth Abraham gift shop in Tarrytown, NY; and on Amazon.com. "Savoring Life" is also being promoted through the company's Website (http://www.hillcrest-court.com), word of mouth and through direct marketing. Klein expects to have the book stocked in independent bookstores, hospital gift shops and also sold by non-profit organizations with whom he will share some of the sales proceeds to benefit the organizations.
Rather than a mere verbatim past tense recounting of his experiences, Klein wrote much of "Savoring Life" in a present tense narrative so the reader feels as if they are experiencing the same things Klein did as he went through them. Klein also discusses his ideas about the state of our health care delivery system, how to go about exploring
alternative and experimental health choices, the roles of faith and religion in recovery and death, dying, and the measure of life. While the book deals with serious matters it does not carry a heavy sad tone and in fact contains a good deal of humor and interesting anecdotes. It is poignant but upbeat and reaffirms our innate abilities to recover and savor life.
"Medically, quite accurate, extremely insightful and delightfully humorous," says Marvin Steinberg, M.D., Vice Chair and Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center. "A wonderful book!" claims Mortimer Lacher, M.D. and Chairman of The Lymphoma Foundation in New York, NY.
Pending the success of "Savoring Life," Klein plans on publishing and promoting further works including those of other authors. Klein is also contemplating organizing a charity cross-country bike ride comprised of a group primarily made up by cancer survivors and friends and family members of cancer survivors.
"Savoring Life" sells for $16.95 and, in addition to the above purchasing options, order forms can be requested by calling (917) 952-9951. For more information Klein can also be contacted at the same number or by e-mail at mailto:DMK1967@hillcrest-court.com
