Beach Cities Robotics Team 294 (www.bcrobotics.org), announces they are the veteran mentors for two rookie teams, Santa Monica High School Team 1115 and Woodbridge High School, Irvine, Team 1047. Team 1115 was just awarded a NASA rookie grant of $6,000. Team 1047 raised $10,000 on their own, and then sought Team 294 as their mentor team.
Peninsula High School, Palos Verdes, thought that they would not be able to compete in the new 2003 season. Beach Cities Robotics invited them to join with their team. The plan is that season 2004 Peninsula will have their own team.
Beach Cities Robotics was instrumental in helping rookie team South High Torrance #1197 get their NASA grant of $6,000 and hopes that this will motivate other Torrance High Schools to get into the program. Beach Bots Team 330, located in Hermosa Beach, will be the veteran mentor for Team 1197. Beach Bots and Beach Cities Robotics cooperate with each other to do whatever they can to help rookie teams get off the ground.
Beach Cities Robotics Team 294 is thrilled to pass on their experience to help ensure that rookie teams will have a positive and successful first year and is ready to mentor other new teams from local public or private high schools who sign up to participate in FIRSTs (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology www.usfirst.org ) 2003 season. Event registration is open from October 1, 2002 through December 13, 2002. Call 310-944-9334 for more details.
