New Book: Society at the Crossroads

A newly published book, SOCIETY AT THE CROSSROADS, shows how we can provably alleviate these social problems. A big claim, but consider: 1) If in many ways we are better off than ever, it is highly unlikely that the chief underlying cause of these problems is to be found in outer social conditions; rather they are to be found in our inner attitudes (not in our stars but in us), and it is with these attitudes that SOCIETY AT THE CROSSROADS deals.

How Can We Alleviate
The Social Problems Engulfing Us?

We are better off than ever in many ways (insofar as we have more prosperity, longer & healthier life spans, technological marvels, less sex and race discrimination, etc.) - and yet we are being engulfed by such intractable social problems as terrorism, Enron-ism, a high crime rate, extensive hard-drug use, violence in entertainment, family dissolution, collapse of educational standards, high taxes, worldwide poverty, and so forth.

A newly published book, SOCIETY AT THE CROSSROADS, shows how we can provably alleviate these social problems. A big claim, but consider:

1) If in many ways we are better off than ever, it is highly unlikely that the chief underlying cause of these problems is to be found in outer social conditions; rather they are to be found in our inner attitudes (not in our stars but in us), and it is with these attitudes that SOCIETY AT THE CROSSROADS deals.

2) A society which holds that all ethical standards are only matters of personal opinion is giving a weak response to its enemies; after all, terrorists, criminals, etc. believe heart-and-soul in what they're doing. They're not devoid of opinions, nor are they likely to be convinced by the admonition, "Please don't violate our beliefs; just conform to what we say. And one thing we say is - your prospective victims have no provable rights." If a society says that, it is inviting trouble, and will get it.

3) When you say you abhor murder, sex/race discrimination, and robbery, aren't you according other people their equal rights to life, liberty and property? You believe in the ethical standard of equal rights - don't you want it proven? Mere belief in them hasn't worked well so far: we are being engulfed by social problems; let's not take equal rights for granted. However, you'll find a simple rational proof in SOCIETY AT THE CROSSROADS and you'll see how that proof can successfully combat social problems.

4) The belief that ethical standards can never be proven valid -generally called ethical relativism - by its own admission can never be proven valid because it is itself an ethical standard! It falls victim to the Skeptic's Dilemma, which is that if nothing can be proven valid, then neither can skepticism (ethical relativism being a form of skepticism).

All these points are fully explored in SOCIETY AT THE CROSSROADS in an easy-to-read conversational way. It tries for crystal clarity and simplicity while showing how to alleviate the social problems engulfing us. Heavy subject, but light reading.

The book contains a BONUS: it describes a simple no-cost tax reform that can alleviate poverty and produce continuous prosperity for all (without any loss in government revenue even though most people would get tax reductions. Very important: this reform has always produced economic benefits in ACTUAL practice; it is not only logical but has factual support. However, you will have to read the book in order to find out what this simple no-cost tax reform is and how it has worked.

SOCIETY AT THE CROSSROADS is available from Independent Publishers Group, 814 N. Franklin St., Chicago IL 60610, ph. 312-337-0747, fax 312-337-5985; $22.95 pbk., $34.95 cloth cover.
