Osceola Soup Kitchen to Change Name And Management

Effective January 1, OCMC will take over the operations of Kissimmees noontime soup kitchen under the new name Our Fathers Table".

(PRWEB) November 29, 2002 -- In a joint announcement, the Osceola Christian Ministry Center (OCMC) and the Christian Service Center announce the transfer of Kissimmees only soup kitchen.

Todays announcement indicates that OCMC will take over the operations on January 1, 2003, under the new name Our Fathers Table".

For more than 11 years, the Christian Service Center has coordinated the operations of Osceola Daily Bread, a program that has provided a nourishing noontime meal to thousands in Osceola County. "We are excited about this renewed interest by the churches of Kissimmee and Osceola County to carry on this great ministry," stated Robert Stuart, Executive Director of the Christian Service Center for Central Florida. "It has been our desire that a local voice of interested churches take the lead to serve this community. We are thrilled to see the leadership and pray for their success."

Now is the time for community churches to step up and live out their mission to care for the hopeless and hurting," said Tim Wilder, pastor of First Baptist Church of Kissimmee, the sponsoring church for OCMC. We have a calling to care for these individuals. In addition, as churches, we are called to work together in the unity to which Christ has called us. Our Fathers Table is just one example of this type of unity that can transform our community."

More information: The Christian Service Center started Osceola Daily Bread in 1989 at the request of a group of local pastors. Since that time, meals have been served throughout the community at First United Methodist Church of Kissimmee, First Presbyterian Church of Kissimmee, and in 2000 moved into the Osceola Christian Ministry Center.

The Osceola Christian Ministry Center was started by the First Baptist Church of Kissimmee through an initial grant from a local family. Today, OCMC is located at 700 Union Street and provides a variety of services that include emergency medical attention, pantry and grocery items, clothing, and showers.
