Aspire, the UKs personal development organisation for women, ran the first in a series of networking events, on Tuesday November 12th at the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Led by Samantha Collins, Director of Aspire, the evening combined some of the latest research in personal development with time and results management for women.
These evening events are designed to give women strategies to make their lives the very best. The mood was excited, dynamic and motivated and the attendees left ready to aspire to the best and most fulfilling life for them.
Collins designed the events to be somewhat different, to create more of an informal and friendly atmosphere, the emphasis to be on the individual rather than just on business or work life.
Over 75 women attended from such a wide variety of businesses and personal backgrounds. It was not industry specific but instead sought to bring together women with a common desire to learn and develop in their personal as well as professional life and to share business and contacts.
The philosophy was one with a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere where the focus was not on receiving instant business but more on long term relationships, perhaps even friendships, gaining business through the making friends of people and with a focus on learning and development. As is often said, people do business with those they KNOW, LIKE and TRUST.
Over 300 women took part in the initial research with a common belief that this type of networking will encourage long-lasting relationships, making friends rather than just business acquaintances. As Collins expressed I dont want you giving out business cards with no hope of follow-up. Partnerships are at the core of these events, focusing on how women can lead change through collaboration and understanding of each other. And believe me, eventually this will lead to more business than you can handle! As I said, people do business with those they know, like and trust".
In addition to all of this networking, the events will also focus on success strategies for women in their life and work. Rima Cotran was the speaker for the evening who led a healthy debate on 'Being Strategic about Success. These events will be dedicated to helping women to lead their best lives and will work alongside the other services that Aspire offers, in terms of workshops and personal coaching.
The next upcoming date in the series of Aspire events is January 21st 2003, to be held at The Great Eastern Hotel, in Liverpool Street, London, EC2M 7QN.
