CVT calls for article submissions.

Citizens for Voluntary Trade calls on interested persons to submit articles for CVTs new quarterly journal, The Rule of Reason," which will debut in February 2003.

WASHINGTON, DC-Citizens for Voluntary Trade calls on interested persons to submit articles for CVTs new quarterly journal, The Rule of Reason," which will debut in February 2003. Unsolicited manuscripts are invited from academics, students, businessmen, and former government employees on the following topics:
   
• The negative effects of antitrust law on businesses and individuals
• The expanded application of unfair competition" laws
• Abuses of power by regulatory agencies
• Practical applications of Objectivist philosophy and capitalist theory
• Analysis of recent Supreme Court and federal appellate court decisions

Topics of particular interest to CVT include the healthcare and technology industries, and the creation of government barriers to marketplace entry. Articles addressing the above topics from the viewpoint of foreign governments will be given consideration. Book reviews, political propaganda, and articles with an anti-capitalist perspective are highly disfavored.

Articles should be easily readable and accessible to a wide audience. Highly technical treatises are discouraged. Graphs, charts, and other illustrations should be used sparingly.

Manuscripts should meet the following specifications:

• 8 ½ by 11 inch paper size with one-inch margins on all four sides
• The body of the text must be double-spaced, except that quotes exceeding 30 words should be single-spaced and indented one inch on each side
• All citations must be contained in footnotes (not endnotes); do not place any reference citations in the main text; footnotes should be in the main body, not the margins
• Page numbers should be on the top of the page in a header or the margin
• Acceptable fonts include Book Antiqua, Garamond, and Times New Roman; monopsaced fonts, such as Courier, are disfavored
• Body text should be 11-point or larger type; footnotes should be 9-point or 10-point type
• Typeface must be consistent throughout the manuscript
• A cover page or header including the authors name, mailing address, daytime telephone number, e-mail address, and fax number (if applicable).

Manuscripts should be submitted by e-mail to VoluntaryTrade@aol.com. The manuscript should be attached to the e-mail as a Microsoft Word or Corel WordPerfect file. Please do not attach an Adobe PDF file or paste text in the body of the e-mail message itself. It is not necessary to submit a hardcopy of your manuscript.

Should your article be accepted for submission, the editorial board will contact you via e-mail or telephone. CVT assumes all articles submitted for the editorial boards consideration are exclusive to our consideration; if you plan to submit an article to another publication, please include that information in the e-mail containing the manuscript. As a rule, CVT will not re-publish articles that have previously appeared in other copyrighted publications. All manuscripts may be edited for space, content, or references.

The submission deadline for the February 2003 issue is Wednesday, January 15, 2003, at 5 p.m. EST. Articles submitted after this deadline will be considered for publication in the May 2003 issue. The editorial board may grant an extension if it is requested by the author in advance of the submission deadline.

The Rule of Reason" is primarily distributed through a subscription-based Internet site. Abstracts of articles may be posted on CVTs free-access website. Secondary distribution will take place through a limited print run. Additionally, abstracts may be transmitted to potential subscribers via facsimile or e-mail. Authors of published articles will receive a complimentary subscription to the Internet version. Additional compensation may be granted at the discretion of the editorial board.

Authors are invited to submit proposals in advance of manuscripts to the editorial board. Proposals and questions regarding submission policies may be sent via e-mail to journal@voluntarytrade.org.
