Wisconsin Technology Network Launched to Accelerate Economic Growth and Development
December 2, 2002- The Wisconsin Technology Network,("WTN", www.wistechnology.com) launched today in Madison, Wisc., has been created to accelerate regional economic growth and development by connecting people, technology and ideas, into a unified community.
Michael D. Klein, the company's Founder and Editor, has diverse experience of over 20 years in publishing, on-line, conferences and events as a senior executive at Ziff-Davis, CMP Media, IDG Communications, and also Freedom Communications, where he was the founding publisher of Knowledge Management Magazine.
Mr. Klein, who spoke today at the WTNs kick-off event, said, "The state and regional economic development, technology transfer and creation are not for the faint of heart. They call for courage, inventiveness, flexibility, teamwork, and above all, informed leadership."
The Wisconsin Technology Network's mission is to link entrepreneurs, researchers, scientists, established technology and life science organizations, the financial community, corporate information professionals, corporate executives, and government leaders in a community designed to foster economic growth, development and new jobs to stimulate and promote Wisconsin's and region's economic future.
The site, which can be viewed at http://www.wistechnology.com, features local, regional and national technology news, research, and expert commentary, as well as access to a extensive custom built-proprietary database of national magazines and journal articles covering information technology, life sciences, and biotechnology.
"The next waves of IT and biotech innovation are developing in regional centers of research and development outside the traditional concentrations of the two coasts. This distributed development model supports the networked forms of technology that will characterize the coming renewal of the innovation economy, stated Dan Ruby, Senior IT Analyst and Journalist for the Wisconsin Technology Network.
Klein is joined in this venture by an extensive team of leading industry editors, reporters, technologists, scientists, and academics.
The web site is developed and hosted by The Portofino Group, a Madison, Wisconsin based firm. The firm was founded in Silicon Valley in 1999, and has additional offices in Verona, Wisc., as well as Chicago, New York, San Francisco, Tampa and an international office in Toronto.
"The Wisconsin Technology Network will help stimulate economic development thru creative community building, facilitated professional networking, and knowledge sharing and transfer," Mr. Klein said. "The technology community is filled with risk takers, who inevitably face resistance from status quo forces in their midst. They have a special need to connect with like-minded people in other organizations, who share the same problems, visions, and hopes," he said.
