Turner Broadcasting Announces 2003 Trumpet Awards Honorees. Ceremony To Take Place In Atlanta on Monday, January 6th
Trumpet Awards, Honoring African-American Heros, will salute Spike Lee, Pam Grier, Vernon Jordon and many others. The event takes place in Atlanta on Monday, January 6th at the Georgia World Congress Center and will be broadcasted on Saturday, February 22nd at 7:00 p.m. on TBS.

Ceremony To Take Place in Atlanta Monday, Jan. 6; Airing on TBS Superstation Saturday, Feb. 22
Destiny's Child, Spike Lee, Pam Grier, Julius Erving (Dr. J), Vernon Jordan and Ossie Davis & Ruby Dee are among the honorees at Turner Broadcasting System, Inc.'s 2003 TRUMPET AWARDS ceremony, to be held at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta Monday, Jan. 6, at 6 p.m. Turner Broadcasting flagship entertainment network TBS Superstation will present coverage of the event on Saturday, Feb. 22, at 7 p.m. (ET)/8:30 p.m. (PT). The TRUMPET AWARDS honor African-American achievers in fields as diverse as law, politics and entertainment.
Special to this year・s event is the new American Hero Award, being given to Lt. Col. Marilyn Wills, who was instrumental in pulling victims from the fire following the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attack on the Pentagon.

* Civil Rights Trumpet Award: Civil rights lawyer and former presidential advisor Vernon Jordan
* Trailblazer Trumpet Award: Newsweek editor Mark Whitaker
* Leadership Trumpet Award: 100 Black Men of America Board Chairman and TWD, Inc. President and CEO Thomas W. Dortch Jr.
* Pinnacle Trumpet Award: Actors-writers Ruby Dee & Ossie Davis
* Global Trumpet Award: Prime Minister of the Bahamas Perry Christie
* Rising Star Trumpet Award: Golfer Cheyenne Woods
Xernona Clayton, the creative force behind Turner Broadcasting・s first TRUMPET AWARDS in 1993, will once again serve as executive producer for the event. Also serving as executive producers are Geovanni Brewer and Jeff Fischgrund (10th Annual Soul Train Music Awards, World Stunt Awards) of Black & White TV, Inc. Emmy-winning director Ron De Moraes (2002 Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony, 8th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards) will direct the event, which will feature production design by Emmy-winning designer Steve Bass (2001 Emmy Awards, 2002 Winter Olympics Medals Plaza and Ceremonies).

TBS Superstation・s Saturday, Feb. 22, telecast of the TRUMPET AWARDS will be paired with a special uncut presentation of Spike Lee・s acclaimed film Get On the Bus, the story of a group of African-American men riding a bus to the Million Man March, held in Washington, D.C. in October 1995. Charles S. Dutton and Andre Braugher star in the movie, which was financed in part by Danny Glover, Will Smith and Wesley Snipes.
