ORW Applauds Zogby Poll
Sacramento, CA- The past ten years have been marked by resurgence in the pro-life movement. Operation Rescues tactics have evolved with the times but have consistently placed the issue" of child-killing on the front page and the nightly news. Today we see the effects of these frontline campaigns to save the innocent from death and transform the hearts of Americans. Tomorrow we will see the fruit -- an abortion-free America.
American Attitudes Shift on Abortion Family News in Focus by Steve Jordahl, American attitudes are changing for the better when it comes to abortion, a new survey shows. A new poll is indicating that a third of Americans have changed their minds about abortion in the past 10 years, and the shift is decidedly pro-life. The change is most evident among the young.
The poll, conducted by Zogby, revealed that about 22 percent of Americans said they were less in favor of abortion now than they were 10 years ago, while only half that number were more in favor of it. In addition, one-third of those aged 18 to 29 said abortion should never be legal.
This 16-year-old boy, for example, seems to have thought the issue through: If I was a child and my parents had aborted me, I wouldnt even be here today. I dont think thats right at all."
Dr. Janice Crouse, of the Beverly LaHaye Institute, finds the results encouraging. Those kinds of remarks reflect, I think, the fact that people are seeing this issue in a much more personal tone than we have ever seen it before," Crouse said. She said change is coming from the bottom up. This is coming from grassroots shifts of opinion, not just from laws that mandate behavior," Crouse said. Its just fascinating to me to see this evidence out there."
She thinks the swing in opinion will affect the Supreme Court. I think we are winning this one," Crouse said. That doesnt mean that were going to win it next week or even in the next four years, but we are making headway. Ultimately Roe v. Wade will fall." Until that day comes, Crouse and other pro-life advocates are pleased to see that their message is taking root.
