IRVINE, CA -- December 5, 2002 -- SMC Networks (www.smc.com), the company that takes the work out of networks with high-performance, easy-to-use connectivity products for business and home, today introduces its newest set of products for Ethernet connectivity access across business parks, large organizations and multi-unit buildings, the TigerAccess Extended Ethernet Solution. Available immediately, the TigerAccess Extended Ethernet (EE) solution comprises the TigerAccess Extended Ethernet Switch, splitters and customer premise equipment (CPE) to facilitate the delivery of broadband access in multi-unit buildings and enterprise environments such as hotels, hospitals, and manufacturing facilities. With an array of accessories including optional 10/100, gigabit and 100BASE-FX media expansion modules, the TigerAccess EE Solution is available now, at US List prices ranging from $85 to $4260.

SMCs Extended Ethernet technology employs VDSL technology to deliver Ethernet packets over existing telephone wiring for broadband connection to 15Mbps, at a distance of up to 5,000 feet. The SMC EE solution minimizes the hassles involved in rewiring by delivering both voice and data access on the same Plain Old Telephone Service (POTs) line with digital telephone and ISDN traffic. A fast and efficient way for service providers to supply broadband access to existing structures, the TigerAccess EE solution enables a broad range of connectivity without disruptive overhaul or installation of wiring infrastructure.

The TigerAccess EE Solution is the fastest way for ISPs to roll-out broadband access because they dont need to rewire," said SMC Product Marketing Manager Jennifer Wu. Theres less disruption and expense, faster deployment and more connectivity."

The TigerAccess EE Switch (SMC7724M/VSW) has 24 VDSL ports and one slot for optional 10/100, Gigabit or 100FX uplink. Its stackable and manageable to 192 ports under a single IP address -- without the need for stacking modules. QoS, VLAN support, IGMP Snooping and a generous 32K MAC address ensure smooth, efficient transmission of critical data and multimedia applications, while multi-level password access provides security thats upgradeable to include ACL, RADIUS, TACACS+ and SSL. Support for 4 groups of RMON, Port Mirroring, Spanning Tree, MAC Filtering, and rate limiting in increments of 1Mbps help administrators to manage the network smoothly and securely.

The TigerAccess Extended Ethernet Solution is available now, with options for uplinks, CPE and splitters at the prices shown in the table following. And, of course, all of the components of the TigerAccess EE Solution are covered by SMCs Lifetime Limited Warranty and 24/7 Technical Support.
