Endeavors Technology Brings Secure Native Interoperability of Instant Messaging Closer With Release Of Secure Yahoo! IM Adding To Existing MSN and AOL IM Solutions
Yahoo!® Messenger is the latest public IM product to be secured by Endeavors, adding authentication, encryption, and auditing and reporting tools for cross-firewall enterprise instant messaging control
Irvine (PRWEB) December 6, 2002 - Endeavors Technology today announced Magi Secure IM for Yahoo! Messenger, the latest in a suite of instant messaging (IM) products singularly aimed at bringing about full native interoperability of popular IM products deployed within and beyond company firewalls, as well as providing enterprises with secure, auditable IM mechanisms. Once again, a Secure Magi IM solution opens the gateway to secure instant messaging on another major IM system, preserves the user experience with no change to the Yahoo! IM client, and gives IT control of corporate security.
The announcement of Magi Secure IM for Yahoo! Messenger software follows Endeavors' release last month of Magi Secure IM for AOL® Instant Messenger® (AIM) and Microsoft's MSN® Messenger. Magi Secure IM for Yahoo! Messenger, as with other core products in the Magi Secure IM suite, singularly routes instant messages through a fully compliant and auditable cross-enterprise communications proxy. Its deployment will ease corporate concerns of eventual lock-in or over-exposure to a single vendor's product, and, like other Secure Magi IM software, provides company officials with a verification mechanism for IM communications.
Banks, traders, military personnel, the media, analysts and others echoed Endeavors' call last month for secure interoperability of popular IM. The rationale is clear ... 60 million enterprise workers already use one IM product or another, and enterprise deployment is expected to leap to over 255 million users by 2005, says IDC.
Public IM vendors have made limited progress in creating integration standards, and some large enterprises are demanding results sooner rather than later. Recently, the Financial Instant Messaging Association (FIMA) placed IM vendors on notice to agree on standards as soon as possible. FIMA is currently comprised of seven large Wall Street firms including Credit Suisse First Boston, Deutsche Bank, J.P. Morgan Chase, Lehman Brothers, Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley and UBS Warburg. Endeavors is a founding technology vendor member of the association.
FIMA's reasoning is sheer business logic. Heavily regulated industries, like financial services and healthcare organizations, are under pressure by government agencies to manage instant messages and chat sessions as they would phone and e-mail communications. This also closely corresponds with the natural need for any company to protect their information assets, including employee abuse of policies.
Magi Secure IM works with independent IM clients in their unchanged native mode allowing enterprises, for the first time, to gain full control over employee messaging and chat sessions. Endeavors Technology's unique customer-centric approach of leaving the IM platform untouched to preserve the user experience, yet providing corporations with strong control mechanisms over instant messaging and chat rooms, supports the extended adoption of secure IM in businesses without further delay, and without lengthy lead times and high costs inherent in modifying network architectures.
"Instant messaging in the enterprise is dominated by use of AIM, MSN Messenger and Yahoo! Messenger -- proprietary, consumer-grade IM clients in combination with proprietary public networks. The result is that most enterprise use of IM today lacks security and the ability to communicate between competing systems," says Michael D. Osterman, of Osterman Research, Inc. "Clearly, the option of maintaining the existing base of IM clients while providing administrators with the ability to provide security and interoperability between proprietary systems, as Endeavors Technology is doing with Magi, is a critical step toward advancing the role of IM in the enterprise".
"Customers and industry organizations like FIMA today demand that instant messaging be enterprise ready and interoperable while regulators like the SEC are stipulating security and audit requirements for legal IM transactions," said Bernard Hulme, CEO of Endeavors Technology. "With the launch of Magi Secure IM for Yahoo! Messenger adding to existing IM products for MSN and AOL platforms, Endeavors Technology again demonstrates its commitment to the business community in delivering IM security, manageability and ultimately full interoperability."
