On the Edge of Violence and Controversy... NLightning Software Development Inc.

Several parents sued 24 of the most prominent video game companies in the industry in the aftermath of the Columbine shootings that left 13 people dead. The lawsuits were eventually dropped and the video game industry continues to produce games that are more violent than ever.

Medford, OR October 21st 2002 - In the past three years, the country has suffered countless tragic losses of teens at the hands of other teens: Littleton, Colorado; Paducah, Kentucky; Eugene, Oregon; Pearl, Mississippi. All of these sites were examples of deadly rampages and in each case the shooters had one thing in common; they were all avid players of violent video games. Several parents sued 24 of the most prominent video game companies in the industry in the aftermath of the Columbine shootings that left 13 people dead. The lawsuits were eventually dropped and the video game industry continues to produce games that are more violent than ever.

In the dark days that followed the tragic shootings at Columbine several concerned members of a Southern Oregon community pooled their resources to create a company to make a difference and provide video game players a biblically based alternative to the standard, explicitly violent and gory games .... NLightning Software Development Inc.

The mission of this company is to produce high quality action/adventure video games that do not portray violence to human beings or feature blood, guts and gore. Common sense cried out for such an alternative. The task was daunting to say the least; a typical video game that is mass produced and sold worldwide costs millions of dollars to produce and requires a team of development and sales professionals to create, market, and distribute the games into the proper sales channels.

A small but dedicated team of individuals began development of a test demo. Within the next six months they had created a technical demo of their first title and were able to secure the money they needed to complete the game from an investor that believed in their mission. Eighteen months later, Catechumen" was released for sale to the general public.

The game features a biblically-based storyline set in ancient Rome with impressive graphics and intense game play. This unique game has won over thousands of enthusiastic fans and the respect of industry professionals. With praise from respected game reviewers and word-of-mouth Catechumen soon became the top selling inspirational computer game of all time. Parents and teens all over the world were thankful to have a positive, action-oriented game that they could enjoy without exposing themselves and their children to gratuitous violence.

During the last two years the team at NLightning Software has been fervently working on a new title featuring improved graphics, advanced artificial intelligence and an intriguing storyline. The result is Ominous Horizons".

This 1st person action/adventure game is set in the late 1400s in Mainz, Germany. The games plot revolves around Johan Gutenberg and the creation of the first printing press. The players task is to assist the famous inventor and retrieve ancient biblical manuscripts needed to complete the printing of the Holy Bible. This game is a refreshing, innovative example of a game that can be fun, exciting, and visually stunning without portraying blood, guts and gore.

While NLightning has earned critical acclaim and a small, but loyal following, it is still an uphill battle in an industry that continues to pander to the darker instincts and emotions in all of us. NLightning is dedicated to providing alternative games with a higher calling.
