Elvis Presley- Christmas 2002, and the New Year.
A view of the importance of Christmas and New Year to Elvis Presley fans world-wide.
The Festive season was always a special time for Elvis Presley- he made a point of always being at home in Graceland to celebrate this special time with family and friends. Therefore it is heartening to have witnessed the following.
The unprecedented coverage in the media this year, including the broad-sheets, sees Elvis Presley once again the focus of attention world-wide. Graceland is lit up for Christmas, and Television cameras and Newspaper photographers will be there to share the various Elvis related events taking place.
The marvellous, "Elvis' Christmas album", of 1957 will be dusted off and played in millions of homes, as it has been every Christmas since.
The 'rocking' song, "Santa Claus is Back in Town" will liven up parties and, "O Little Town of Bethlehem", will quieten them down again. The wonderful voice of Elvis singing a variety of songs including hymns at Christmas, may surprise some unfamiliar with his amazing versatility- they would be wise to buy themselves a copy.
On the 8th January 2003, to be precise, will see Elvis' birthday celebrated in Tupelo Mississippi. Fans from around the world, in growing numbers, will be visiting the birthplace of the legendary singer. The life-sized bronze statue of, "Elvis at 13", standing close to the little house where Elvis was born is a relatively recent and poignant addition, brought to fruition by the Mayor of Tupelo, Larry K Otis, and the exceptionally gifted sculptor, Michiel Van der Sommen. Tupelo is not too far from Memphis, it is an important part of the, "Elvis Trail"- not to be missed.
During his lifetime the legendary Elvis Presley was noted for his beautiful and exciting voice, his generosity and great sense of humour. Now, more than 25 years after his death, he has been introduced to a whole new generation of discerning listeners, thanks to the continuing success of the, "ELV1S" compilation CD, and the Disney movie, "Lilo & Stitch", which has brought Elvis to the attention of the very young and impressionable, thus ensuring his immortality.
