Best Way to Control Weight: Dont Go Hungry

Calories count, but 3,500 of them dont always equal a pound. When you diet, stop losing, then eat less and work out more, you lower your metabolism. Your inner engineer gets scared into Famine Mode", drops your burn rate and ups the hunger pangs. Eating more (of the right stuff) will help you lose, even with more calories. Instead of feeling safer at keeping some extra weight around, its okay to use it because there is plenty more where that came from outside.

A long term study of long term success at weight control (keeping it off for 24 months) offers more clues on diet myths and mysteries. The Pop Top 10:

1.   High protein diets work at first, when all else failed, but dont last because you dont get what you need from QUALITY carbohydrates.
2.   Proteins are digested by acids, carbs by alkalis. (No fad, compelling lab work was done 50 years ago, tragically over looked.) Dont eliminate all carbs, but let them take turns in different meals for a big difference in a lot less overeating, heartburn, indigestion and constipation.
3.   Portions got larger as nutritional value tanked. We eat more because there is less in it. We are starving for nutrition, not just packing material.
4.   When you eat what you need, you stop overeating. Satisfaction doesnt come from getting all the junk you can eat, but with better, digestible food.
5.   The more ingredients added, the less nutrition. The most satisfying foods have no attached list of ingredients.
6.   Nobody over eats fresh produce. NOBODY. Go ahead and try, the sense of abundance" will raise your metabolism out of Famine Mode".
7.   Just eat less, move more" and everything in moderation" are lies, part of the problem, not the solution. Dieters have been proving this for decades.
8.   Diet sodas stimulate your appetite in 3 ways -- why you gained weight when you switched from regular.
9.   Some overeating is a symptom of chronic dehydration -- from drinking diuretics instead of plain water. Your bodys thirst message backfired.
10.   Dehydration sabotages your exercise plan (and you thought it was just boredom). Without enough lube, it hurts to move so the body yells STOP!
