About STEPHEN W. DIRECTOR
Dr. Stephen W. Director is the Dean of Engineering and Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at The University of Michigan. From 1977 to 1996, he was with Carnegie Mellon University, where his positions included Dean of the College of Engineering. He is a pioneer in the area of computer-aided design and has received numerous awards for his research and educational contributions. Dr. Director is a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) a member of the US National Academy of Engineering (NAE). He chair's the NAE Committee on Engineering Education, and serves the Boards of Directors and Scientific Advisory Boards of both established and small start-up companies. He received a B.S. degree from the State University of New York at Stony Brook; and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of California, Berkley, all in electrical engineering.
