Exegenix Raises the Bar on XML Conversion

Interactive, automated XML document conversion now available

Baltimore, MD - XML 2002 Conference/Expo, December 9, 2002 - Exegenix, an innovator in content conversion solutions for business, today raises the bar on XML document conversion by announcing the availability of user interfaces to The Exegenix Conversion System, a revolutionary technology that reliably and cost-effectively transforms an organization's new and legacy content into XML.

The Exegenix Conversion System is a new solution designed to minimize the costs of XML content conversion via a groundbreaking approach that can convert into XML any file that can be printed to PostScript or PDF. It is an automated process that eliminates human involvement for most documents, yet now offers opportunities for user-directed action if desired - resulting in a flexible framework to support your organization's unique conversion workflow, and offering potentially dramatic cost savings over traditional conversion methodologies.

Unlike hand-tagging, it is accurate, fast, and minimizes human resource requirements, enabling valuable expertise to be employed more effectively elsewhere.

Unlike "scripted" conversion, there is no dependency on consistently-applied formatting styles, and no programming expertise required to develop/maintain configuration scripts.

Exegenix technology uses visual cues to uncover a document's structure, much the same way that humans do. The valid XML output file not only presents the document's content and logical structure, but also retains all relevant formatting information, and is designed for ease of use with XSLT and other transformation scripts.

The software consists of the following modules:

ECS Engine. The automated process that converts submitted documents individually from PDF/PostScript to XML output.

ECS Inspector. A new interface that enables further streamlining of the conversion process via user-directed actions, if required. Authors can examine structures and text identified by the ECS Engine, and add value to the output XML prior to export.

Administration interface. A versatile configuration module adapted to each organization's specific requirements, forming the basis of a flexible workflow framework.

Availability
The Exegenix Conversion System is available now, and is already being successfully used on source materials from global organizations in a variety of industries, including analytical legal research, distance learning content syndication, cross-media publishing, and information services.

The Exegenix Conversion System is fully integrated into your organization's document processing environment, ensuring security, stability, and performance. It is deployed as a "closed-box" conversion solution at your site, managed by your own in-house technical staff with the support of onsite Exegenix deployment personnel as required.

In addition, Exegenix's innovative transactional pricing model ensures that you pay only for documents that meet your conversion requirements.

Exegenix also offers additional services, including:
-custom pre-processing for paper-based documents
-post-processing such as XSL scripting and CMS population
-a fully turnkey conversion service via our ECS-enabled partner network
