The Swedish computer security company Texonet has found a serious security problem in one of the worlds most well-known antivirus software. This problem exists in multiple versions of the antivirus program PC-cillin form Trend Micro. The program that is designed to protect the users creates a serious security problem.
-"We have identified the problem in PC-cillin 2000, PC-cillin 2002 and PC-cillin 2003", says Joel Soderberg, the security consultant at Texonet that discovered the bug. "Further more basically the same problem has been found in OfficeScan Corporate Edition 5.02."
Texonet works with security assessments and the discovery was made while evaluating various antivirus products. Some functions in the program stopped responding during one of the tests, which made the security consultant suspicious. When the cause was identified there was no doubt that a serious security threat is hidden in the program.
