Tactical Software Increases the Return on Investment of Legacy Data Applications at National Financial Services Organizations
ROI of Legacy Data Applications
Removing the Need for Desktop Modems to Run Legacy Data Applications Leverages Existing Technology Investments, Saves Money
NASHUA, N.H., December 10, 2002 -- Tactical Software LLC, a dial-out and serial data communications solutions provider, announced today that many of the nations leading financial services organizations are selecting its software to eliminate the desktop modems required by legacy applications to facilitate transmission of financial data on a daily basis. The financial industry relies heavily on serial communication over modems for back office operations since little information is Web-based or TCP/IP-enabled in the financial services industry.
To eliminate desktop modems without impacting the function or availability of desktop business applications, many financial services firms, including AG Edwards, Barclays, UBS PaineWebber, and TIAA-CREF, have eliminated desktop modems from their networks replacing them with dial-out software. Tacticals dial-out solutions allow organizations to use existing applications without modification, and ensure the security of their network through modem pooling. Because no new technology is required, the removal of desktop modems from individual workstations results in immediate monthly savings associated with the cost of underutilized, unnecessary phone lines.
Consistent, reliable and secure data communication is a concern for any business or industry, but it is a priority for those of us in financial services," said John Zuckerman, a network products employee for a major Midwestern brokerage institution. By removing analog lines running to desktops for modem use, our IT department can now monitor and control who is dialing out from and in to our organization. Tactical Software helps us minimize our security risks, while at the same time maximizing the use of our existing equipment and reducing our phone line costs."
Dial-out software products, such as DialOut/EZ and DialOut/IP from Tactical Software, eliminate the need for desktop modems by providing access to a modem-sharing server for dial-out services. Tacticals software creates virtual COM ports to initiate a connection between the local PC and the remote access server so that desktop applications are unaware that a dial-out redirector is being used to access a modem pool. The location receiving the data communication receives a modem call as usual to handle the communication.
The financial services industry still requires dial-out applications for everyday business transactions," said Liisa Walsh, president of Tactical Software. But cost of doing business cant be ignored and our dial-out software provides an immediate solution in this area. Tactical Softwares products allow financial institutions to continue to use their business critical applications while reducing monthly costs and security risks through the elimination of desktop modems and dedicated phone lines."
