Hepatitis Epidemic Spurs Opening of Clinic
(DETROIT, MI 12/12/2002 5:04 PM) In response to the rapidly growing number of Hepatitis C infections reported in the Midwest, it was announced today that a clinic devoted exclusively to the treatment of Hepatitis will open in the Detroit area. The clinic, run by renowned specialist Dr. Bennet Cecil, will provide individualized treatment plans using the latest biotechnology products designed to destroy the virus.
Described as a silent epidemic" by the U.S. Surgeon General, viral Hepatitis C (HCV) is the most common chronic blood-borne infection, affecting nearly 1 in 50 Americans. It is estimated that there will be nearly 2,000 new cases of HCV reported Detroit this year. It is the leading cause of liver failure and subsequent liver transplants in the U.S.
Although there is no guaranteed cure for Hepatitis C virus, Dr. Cecils unique approach to treatment has resulted in eradication of the virus in over 50% of the patients he has treated. If you take away the virus, the liver has an amazing ability to heal and restore health" Dr Cecil said. We can cure about half the patients with chronic hepatitis C, including some with advanced cirrhosis and liver failure."
Treatment of the Hepatitis C virus usually takes a year. The drugs used to treat HCV can cause serious side effects, such as nausea, depression, and continuous flu-like symptoms. In many cases, the treatment can be so overwhelming that patients take themselves off the medications. Dr. Cecils approach is to use a personalized dosage of the medication for each patient reflecting their personal and biological needs, which helps to maximize the effect of the treatment, while minimizing the side effects.
The clinic is located at 31500 Telegraph Road in Bingham Farms, MI. Appointments may be made by calling (248) 203-2993 or may be requested on-line at www.hepatitiscure.com
Dr. Bennet Cecil is Board certified in Internal Medicine and in Gastroenterology/Hepatology. He has been practicing medicine for 25 years and has treated HCV exclusively for the past 8 years. He has been an advocate for HCV patients rights and has treated 300 veterans at the VAMC in Louisville, KY.
HEAL C Management Company is a Michigan based company contracted to assist Dr. Cecil with the opening and operation of the clinic.
