National Underwriter Magazines Name New Publishers
Cincinnati, OH and Hoboken, NJ -- National Underwriter -- Life & Health/Financial Services Edition, National Underwriter -- Property & Casualty/Risk & Benefits Management Edition, and Tech Decisions, produced by the insurance industrys leading publishing company, The National Underwriter Company, have named new publishers.

Dan Lance, previously director of advertising sales and marketing for all of The National Underwriter Companys magazines, is now publisher of National Underwriter -- Life & Health/Financial Services Edition and Tech Decisions, National Underwriters monthly technology publication for insurance. Mr. Lance is responsible for advertising, marketing and editorial of these publications and will continue to build on their strong presence in the insurance marketplace.
Sam Friedman becomes publisher of National Underwriter -- Property & Casualty/Risk & Benefits Management Edition. He is in charge of advertising, marketing and editorial policy for the weekly newsmagazine. Mr. Friedman retains his current title of editor-in-chief, however, his editorial responsibilities with the magazine will be limited due to the promotion of Susanne Sclafane, NUs senior editor, to managing editor effective January 2.
These changes provide a focused management approach to the business side of The National Underwriter Companys magazines.
Mr. Lance began his career with The National Underwriter Company in 1996 as national sales manager, and most recently was director of advertising sales and marketing. He is an employee representative on The National Underwriter Companys Board of Directors, an active member in the Life Communicators Association (LCA), and serves on the board of directors of the Insurance Marketing Communications Association (IMCA).
Mr. Friedman joined NU in 1981 as a staff writer covering the independent agent beat and was promoted through the years to assistant editor, managing editor and most recently to editor-in-chief in 2000. His commitment and his industry expertise have been recognized many times and are reflected in his appointment as publisher and as a member of The National Underwriter Companys Board of Trustees.
Ms. Sclafane came to NU in 1995 after an impressive career in the insurance industry as an actuary and consultant. She has specialized in financial reporting and coverage of the excess and surplus lines markets for NU, and has managed the magazine in Mr. Friedmans absence during the past two years.
