Rainbow Project, an open source Content Management System (PRWEB) December 18, 2002

Italy - Dec 16, 2002 - Due Metri, a leading content management system (CMS) solutions provider, today announced the formation of the Rainbow Project, a community initiative to develop an open source content management system (CMS) based on the IBUYSPY portal application released by Microsoft when it launched its .Net platform this year.

One of the key features of the original application is the ability to dynamically create pages and manage its content through modules (pieces of code that perform a certain function, such as a text module; a contact module; an announcement module; or a document management module). Many developers have downloaded and customised Microsofts IBUYSPY portal for their own internal or external websites, but this has resulted in making modules incompatible across portals. The Rainbow Project aims to create an open source portal application that allows compatible modules to be developed and deployed.

The Rainbow Project has extended the original application by implementing multi-language capabilities; allowing multiple portals to be easily created; and adding the ability to apply different themes on a portal or page basis. This is only the beginning and many more features are planned.

A lot of developers have already joined the project and we are hoping to encourage more to do so. Our aim is to create a community where people with various skills, join, contribute and help the project grow. We are looking to create subgroups such as development, marketing, education and consultancy. So everyone is welcome.

We are aiming to make the Rainbow Project a standard open solution for content management implementations. The source code has been released under the open source license DPL 1.1 (see our forum for the license). The official web site for the Rainbow Project is http://www.rainbowportal.net and we can also be found on sourceforge.net at the following address: http://sourceforge.net/projects/rainbowportal/
